Log it while it is happening
Open the app, tap a tag, add a word or two if you want one, done — the entry is time-stamped for you. There is no form to complete and no minimum length. Three true words beat a paragraph of what you think you are supposed to say. You can also log by asking Siri, without opening the app at all.
Keep it where you will have it
The log sits on your phone, one screen from open. You can continue without signing in, or sign in with Apple once and hide your email — either way, nothing stands between you and the entry.
Read the pattern, not the night
One craving is weather; the record is a climate. History, Insights, and the calendar show when cravings cluster, how the last seven days compare, and whether the pattern is loosening. That reading is done in daylight, when you are steady enough to use it.
One reminder, if you want it
There is a single optional daily reminder to log, off until you switch it on, at an hour you pick. Nothing else notifies you, because no notification of ours should be engineered to bring you back for our sake.
Nothing is sent for you
North Star does not message, alert, or escalate to anyone on your behalf — not a sponsor, not a clinician, not a service. If you want someone treating you to see the record, you export it as a CSV and send it yourself.
Beside the counter, not instead of it
If you are counting days, Day One — No. 01 in the same register — holds the number. North Star holds the record of the cravings around it. They are separate programs and neither needs the other; take whichever one answers the harder problem.
What this is not
It is not treatment, not medical advice, and not a substitute for the people treating you. It does not interpret symptoms or touch your medication. If tonight is an emergency rather than a hard night, 988 answers at any hour and 911 is the right call when someone may be in danger. The notes go further into the thinking.
